ALCANON CLUB’S MISSION STATEMENT
"TO MAINTAIN A SAFE ENVIRONMENT FOR SOBER MEMBERS AND TO HELP INTEGRATE
THEM INTO SOCIETY THRU SOCIAL EVENTS, AA MEETINGS, AND GOOD FELLOWSHIP."
THEM INTO SOCIETY THRU SOCIAL EVENTS, AA MEETINGS, AND GOOD FELLOWSHIP."
OUR HISTORY & OUR PRIMARY PURPOSE
In the late 1940s, a handful of AA's decided to try to create a place to hold meetings and social events for people in recovery.
These people worked hard to be able to open up the doors to the Alcanon Club. These people put forth this effort to DO something, not to Get something. It began with a fairly strict membership rule. You had to become a Member to enjoy the Club. You could only be a Guest of a Member a few times before you were asked to join. Over the years, the Membership rules have changed to allow anyone with a desire to stop drinking to attend the daily AA meetings held at the Club, as long as they respect our bylaws and policies. Because of that, the Membership has slowly diminished over the years and we have fewer members who accept responsibility for providing a place for people in recovery to have meetings and social events. As a Member of the Alcanon Club, you get to be involved in the purpose of providing a safe place for people in recovery. You get to see newcomers come to our Club for their first meeting. You will see some still sick and wondering if the AA program is right for them. You get to share your experience, strength and hope with them to show them that you understand what they are going through and that there is a solution if only they follow our simple program. You will witness peoples' lives change, make new friends in recovery and in turn, your life will change as well. You will receive the opportunity to make new friends and share holidays and special events with a new family who are together by choice to support each other.
Please don't join the Alcanon Club to get something. Join the Alcanon Club to support a safe, sober place for people in recovery, newcomers and old-times, and to continue to allow our Club to serve our community for many more years to come!
The annual price for Membership to the Alcanon Club is a small price to pay for the thousands of sick and suffering individuals that have walked through our doors and discovered a new way of life!
Please speak to a Member, Officer or Board Member TODAY on how you can become a Member of the Alcanon Club!
All new Members must have at least 3 months of continuous sobriety, be sponsored by a current Member of the Club in good standing, pay the applicable annual membership fee and be voted in by the Club's Board of Directors.
